So, our Great East African Safari is over and we already miss bedrooms such as this one at Sasaab Lodge by @thesafaricollection in Kenya.
Here are the top 12 things I loved (and will miss) about luxury safaris in Africa: 1) No locks on doors the entire time; 2) Morning wake up call comes with gourmet French press coffee and cookies in bed; 3) A hot towel and a cold drink await your return from each game drive; 4) We haven’t had to lift our bags in over three weeks; 5) Hot water bottles under your sheets when you get into bed; 6) No fences around the properties — just a layer of canvas between you and the big cats; 7) All the resorts we visited had less than 10 rooms/tents; which meant family-style meals and fireside chats to meet all the other guests; 8) Picnic breakfasts or lunches at whatever magical spot in the savannah you decide to spread your Maasai shuka blanket (while eggs and bacon cook in the back of the safari jeep); 9) Two words: “All Inclusive” (that means meals, drinks, even laundry); 10) One word: Sundowner; 11) “Bush taxis”, aka the 7 small planes we took from lodge to lodge (I got to ride co-pilot twice); 12) The incredible staff, guides and managers we got to spend time with — these people are true ambassadors of their country!
Thank you @thesafaricollection in Kenya and @asiliaafrica in Tanzania for hosting us. The real world awaits. Sigh… #nevercominghome #goneforever
